We dropped in on Canterbury on our way to London and learned about Thomas  Becket, before spending three very busy days in the capital.

We visited Hampton Court and the National Gallery; then sailed down the Thames to Greenwich, where we explored the Royal Observatory and straddled the Prime Meridian. We also went to the British Museum to see the Lewis Chessmen and an exhibition of caricatures of Napoleon Bonaparte. The photos show us at The Globe during the theatre workshop. On the last day we went to see the matinee performance of the musical Billy Elliot before picnicking in St James's Park.

Trip to London from 1st to 4th June
